Finding Your Androgyny
Not all of us fit into the neat boxes of “masculine” and “feminine”. Some people sit perfectly in-between, others like to pick and choose or switch between the two. For those who prefer a more androgynous look, formal wear can seem a bit daunting but there is a world of options to be explored. From bespoke suits to mix and match looks, we’re here to help you find your own definition of androgyny that makes you feel fabulous inside and out. When it comes to suits, our queer tailoring service can help you find the fit that’s right for you. If you prefer a slightly more feminine fit, a shorter suit jacket or blazer with a fitted waist and darts can create a flattering silhouette, and double-breasting or peplums accentuate or create the illusion of curves. Paired with a formal shirt and tie, this is a classically stylish look for any formal occasion. Men’s fit jackets and blazers can feel “boxy” on some people, but if this is a style you want to lean into, an oversized slouchy men’s fit jacket in a bright colour or floral pattern can be a beautiful androgynous look, especially when paired with a more feminine fitting blouse or shirt underneath. Similarly to suit jackets, suit trousers also have a variety of fits that can create a more masculine or feminine silhouette overall. Slim fit, tailored trousers elongate the frame and are traditionally very elegant and in some cases can look quite feminine, especially with a cropped leg. On the other hand, a more relaxed fit “slouchy” leg is traditionally more masculine, but a gender-neutral look can be achieved by mixing and matching loose fit trousers with a tailored jacket or vice versa. And if trousers aren’t for you, a blazer, oversized or tailored, over a formal dress or maxi skirt is an always on-trend androgynous look that’s unconventional yet formal. Your choice of shoe (heels or flats?) can also mix things up. Cropped leg trousers look great when paired with high heels. Or why not consider a more masculine formal shoe such as a brogue for a more dapper look? Combine a dress with flats like brogues or a suit with formal sandals for a stylish androgynous finish from head to toe. Carefully chosen accessories also add unique elements to your formal look. If ties are too masculine for you, there’s plenty of accessory options to explore. If you’re looking for something a little bit different, collar clips, brooches, and a floral or brightly patterned pocket square can add sparkle and flair to a formal suit without pulling too masculine or too feminine. For a suit that is as unique as you are, why not go bespoke? Our made to measure suit service in London puts you in control from start to finish so our highly trained staff can create your suit just how you imagine it. And if suits aren’t your thing, at Orhan London Tailoring we understand that dresses off the rack aren’t always made to fit ......Continue Reading

What is the Best Material for a Summer Suit?
So far, our great British summer has been a disappointment, even to us seasoned all-weather folk. But as the months start to roll on we can be forgiven for planning (praying?) for a proper summer, with warmth, sun, and rolling fields of green! Whilst a blazing and brazen sun can bring vitality and rising temperatures – there is of course the practical inevitability of ‘lovely day’ becoming ‘bit warm’ and, ultimately ‘absolutely baking’. However a hot day, and a grand selection of made to measure suits can be best friends – so long as you pick your materials correctly! ...Continue Reading
Formal Fashion for Plus-Sized Women
June 4, 2019
There’s a common misconception (read: nonsense) that having a formal wardrobe that is playful and concerted with colour, elegance and sophistication is somehow more difficult for Plus-Sized Women. Not only is that untrue, but it leads into the barmy suggestion that only a small subset of female body shapes somehow qualify for the opportunity of looking unique and beautiful. Our custom tailors in London have something to say about that – and it goes along the lines of ‘what absolute utter rubbish!’ ...Continue Reading
